The "X" signifies the muting/dampening of the string.

Suggestions: play the 7 on A with your index finger. Play the 9 on D with
your 4th (out of 5) finger. Play the 10 on D with your pinky. Play the 7 on
G with your 3rd finger and leave it there - don't lift it for the remainder
of the measure. Play the 10 on A with the 4th, play the 9 on B also with
the 4th and hold it there to ring out for the rest of the measure.
Keep the E and A string as a steady drone.

Play all 4 measures over and over, etc...

Suggestions: same fingering for the third measure as the first.  I
find it easiest to play the 7-7 in the fourth measure with my 3rd and
4th fingers. Then when I hit the 6 on D, I can use my index finger
without lifting my third finger up.  Let the first 6 on D ring for
that extra eighth note.  Let the 7 on G ring for the remainder of the
measure.
